The authorities in China announced on a new campaign in order to stop the gambling phenomena in the country, especially among government clerks.
In 1949 the communists in China condemned gambling and called it pure evil and forbid it. But that wasn't the end of the gambling industry in the country, gambling is illegal but still spread all over in different forms.
The gambling habits of the Chinese government clerks were published in the last month, one of the stories talked about a senior clerk that travel at least 15 times to a north-Korean casino, after he lost more than 300,000 dollars of public money he disappeared and went underground.
According to an official estimate the Chinese gamblers are spending 70 billion dollars a year in casino and horse races in other countries. The campaign will mainly try to stop the gambling in other countries but the phenomenon is also common across China in other names. In the horse races for example the gambler can buy a "guessing coupon" for a particular horse that can be exchanged with cash if the horse wins the race.
