IEEE PES Opportunities for Students and Recent Graduates
Becoming a PES Scholar is a great way to be recognized for your accomplishments to date, and ambition for your future. Beyond the Initiative, PES offers several resources for you as a student, when you transition to a new professional, and when you become a leader in the industry. The information below describes resources available to you or any member through PES.
PES Video Series - Benefits of Membership
Student membership in PES is a great way to network with other students and professionals, stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies, gain leadership experience and round out your resume.
Students enjoy special IEEE and PES membership discounts. Graduate, undergraduate and even high school students are eligible. You must first be an IEEE student member. IEEE student membership yearly dues are $32. After you become an IEEE member, your first year of PES membership is free. After your first year, PES membership dues are only US$18.00 per year. Getting Involved Locally
Most students can immediately benefit from a PES and IEEE membership by participating at a local level. There are often lectures, tours, networking events, competitions and outreach activities that you can be involved in, often at no cost.
Your local area may have an IEEE Section, PES Chapter, IEEE student branch (at your university) or even a dedicated PES student branch chapter.
IEEE Sections are based on geographic area and bring together engineers from all areas of technical interest—not just power and energy. Find a Section near you.
PES Chapters are specialized groups, also arranged geographically, that focus on power and energy topics. Find a PES Chapter near you.
IEEE student branches are university specific, and are comprised of students (undergraduate and graduate) with general interests in electrical engineering. PES student branch chapters are made of students that focus on power and energy engineering. Find a PES SB Chapter near you. Information on how to form a student branch chapter is available.
Young Professionals (Formerly GOLD)
After you graduate from school, you will automatically be designated as an IEEE Young Professionals member. This free and automatic distinction lets you participate in various career-building events and activities targeted early career engineers.

Many PES conferences offer special programs targeted at undergraduate and graduate students. The IEEE PES General Meeting for example offers reduced registration costs, housing support and poster competitions for students. There is also a special luncheon and job fair. Check with specific conferences to see what student programs they offer.
